“Magical Time at the Black Castle!”

“Barcaldine Castle is fantastic. Probably the highlight of our 2 and half week trip. The surrounding countryside is peaceful and idyllic. The castle itself is not huge but is really cool, and very photogenic. It’s filled with carved furniture, carpets, objects of interest, paintings etc. Our room, the Breadalbane had a great carved four poster bed, good window views out over Loch Creran, nice big bathroom, very spacious room. It was amazing to stay in a 14th century castle, and you could feel the history.

Our hosts ( Vic and Thursa, filling in for Ronnie and Liz) were excellent and gave us a very good recommendation to dine at the Creagan Inn about a 10 minute drive along the Loch. We had the best meals of our trip and enjoyed a performance of Traditional Scottish folk music by a group called Nae Plans. What a night!

Breakfast at the castle was incredible, anything you could want. One afternoon we had the Castle to ourselves as other guests were out and the hosts had gone shopping, so we could indulge our Lord and Lady of the Manor fantasies by the fire place with a glass of wine in the Great Room. We loved this place!!

We didn’t have a GPS so it was a little tricky finding the castle…especially the night we returned from the Creagan Inn in darkness! But all in all, highly recommended for a romantic and relaxing time in a spectacular setting.”

“Treat yourself…”

“From the moment we pulled up outside ‘The Black Castle’ aka Barcaldine Castle, we knew this would be a special experience. Set against a gorgeous backdrop of Loch Creran in a beautiful part of Scotland, this small but luxurious 17th century castle was everything we could have hoped for and more.

You can be sure of a warm welcome from Liz and Ronnie, who are always close by and willing to help or answer questions about the castle and the local area. We stayed in the ‘Breadalbane’ room with the four-poster bed (so comfortable it was heartbreaking to leave it); a beautifully furnished room with a view over the loch. The complimentary teas, lemonade and Tunnock’s Teacakes went down well!

Breakfast was delicious, with enough to keep us going well into the afternoon. And I implore you to try the afternoon tea when you arrive, you won’t regret it!

It’d be a good idea to bring your own wine; the castle isn’t licensed to sell alcohol but you’re more than welcome to bring your own, which made for a lovely evening in the parlour room in front of the fire. There are board games, books and DVD’s to keep you entertained… and ask one of your hosts to show you around; the castle has a little bit more than meets the eye!”

“One of the best experiences ever!”

“My wife and I led a photo tour of Scotland, with two couples from America. We all agreed that our stay at Barcaldine was one of the high points of the trip. The rooms are finished to an extremely high standard; everything is cozy and comfy. The hosts Liz and Ronnie went to great lengths to make us comfortable and happy. The breakfasts are incredible! We wished everywhere we stayed was a wonderful as this. If you’re planning a trip to the Oban area, you can’t do better than Barcaldine Castle. (And, unlike other so-called ‘castle’ hotels, this is the real thing!)”

Dear Liz and Ronnie

Just a few words to let you know how much we appreciated our stay at Barcaldine Castle last Sunday.
The place is amazing – exquisite taste in every details – your warmth welcome and care for guests is outstanding as well.
We will certainly recommend the place and we thank you again for the very nice time we had with you. It was our wedding anniversary week end and Barcaldine is exactly the kind of place you dream of as a typical Scottish castle.
Veronique and Philippe, France.
